The Losers... The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors and then some....

The losers of Measure A - the 1/2 cent sales tax increase are the mighty and powerful:

    • The Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors:

        - Chair James T. Beall, Jr.  - running for State Assembly, 24th District - south San Jose
        - Supervisor Liz Kniss
        - Supervisor Don Gage
        - Supervisor Primo McHugh

        The Measure promised many things, but now the Board members are promising cuts! What happened? Did they lie to us? Is the reality that they are in arrears and are struggling to cover the budget so they needed to sucker more money out of the populace? Hmmmmmm?

        Your wonderful, compassionate, and caring supervisors, on election day, increased hospital room rates 10% at Valley Medical Center. And you wonder why people consider politicians hypocrites. Did the supervisors have a premonition that their Measure A would get crushed by vigilant taxpayers?

Beall, his view on taxes, will make you reel...
Kniss, her view on spending, you will not miss...
Gage, for tax and spend, he heads the page....
McHugh, rounds out the crew, with his spendthrift view.

     • The survey company that suckered the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors

        Actually, the survey company was pretty slick. Who has seen the raw data? Have you seen the raw data? I was one of the people surveyed and I nailed, condemned, and pooh-poohed the idea of the tax increase big time! Yet, the survey peddlers got the Board members to put Measure A on the June 6 ballot.

    • Special Interest Groups

        - The Silicon Valley Leadership Group (SVLG) - need to do more research; seems like this group was trying to get a reprieve from some sales taxes so they wouldn't even have to pay the current tax rate. Someone email me and tell me how much money the SVLG paid to push for Measure A.

==================================================

    • The media

        - The San Jose Mercury News - said we needed to take "a leap of faith" and vote for the measure. Is that kind of like, "Holding your nose and voting?"
Very weak argument. Blind faith acceptance that the money will be spent wisely. Ha...  Ha... Ha... Ha, Ha...  Hah!

        - The Silicon Valley Metro - they said "Measure A is about meeting community needs." I'm sorry, paying $30,000 for another ATM machine at Stevens Creek Park to enable park users to pay park entrance fees is not a community need when you are running a deficit. But, see, they just don't get it. Tear apart the budget and look for yourself. It's posted on the Santa Clara County website.

==================================================

    • A rich university

        - Father Locatelli, CPA and President of Santa Clara University  - Catholic charities get hundreds of thousands of dollars from Santa Clara County as part of the Community-Based Organizations that the county supports. Give me money and I'd support raking in more money as well.

        - With all the rich lawyers that graduated from Santa Clara University Law School, why is Santa Clara County giving $40,000 to the Community Law Center at Santa Clara University? Couldn't those rich lawyers give back to the community and pony up $40,000? Santa Clara County is in fiscal trouble. Everyone has to tighten their belt. For a rich university and its rich graduates, they wouldn't even feel it.

==================================================

    • Independent groups

        - Sally E. Pyle, Chair, Leagues of Women Voters of Santa Clara County - I used to respect these folks as being unbiased. How can they be unbiased if they are supporting Measure A - a measure to hide the fact that the Board of Supervisors is not cutting back on expenses or spending.  Go look at the growth rate of costs and manpower for Valley Medical Center. Did the Leagues of Women Voters dissect the Santa Clara County budget? Did the believe all the promises? Did they not realize that costs and spending are skyrocketing and yet they want to spendthrifts more money?

==================================================

    • Oh, yes, and there are many other folks that support Measure A that are living off the taxpayers'  money. Here a just a few:

        - Congressman Mike Honda, of the 15th Congressional District - yeah, sure. If Measure A goes through, the federal government's declining contribution to the county won't be as noticeable and  Congressman Honda gets off the hot seat. Sure, Congressman Mike Honda, we understand your compassion.

        -  Joe Coto, State Assemblyman, 23rd Assembly District - Who is this guy? Someone do a report and let's see if he's a manager or a spender.

        - Susan Hammer, former Mayor of San Jose - Not surprising. She also supports Vice-Mayor Cindy Chavez for Mayor. Vice-Mayor Cindy Chavez has clouds of suspicion hanging over her head because of her devotion to her boss, Mayor Gonzales who himself has been accused of doing some whacked-out shenanigans.

        - Anna G. Eshoo, Congresswoman, 14th District - Again, another congress person who thinks the best dollar is the dollar spent!

==================================================

    • And lastly, some unions, some cities, and some Chambers of Commerce - Please send any tidbits of information.

Measure A went down in flames, but the pilots are still out there.

The sponsors are still in office. James Beall is term-limited (thank goodness for term limits), but he is running for State Assembly, 24th district. Now he can run up expenses at the state level. How wonderful!

Keep these names in mind and never vote for them because if they can't control costs in one office, they have no right to seek any other office. They are a danger to everyone's pocketbook.

More importantly, attend the Board of Supervisor's meetings. Read their actions via the Board Meeting Minutes on the web site. Challenge them every chance you get. Challenge them at the meetings, on Craigs List, in letters to the editors, to the Supervisors email, and to everyone on your email list.

Don't let the board of supervisors go unchallenged. They are used to no one showing up at their public hearings.

Did you know?  The board of supervisors says it's ok to raise fees on adoptions--does that show compassion? Caring? Loving? Consideration? Nurturing?

Yet they can spend another $100,000 on a paralegal when they already have close to 40. What gives?

Hasn't the board studied the valley economics in terms of the rise and fall of companies? If you are in trouble, you seek more income (voters rejected you on this one), you stop spending, you sell assets, and you cut expenses. You freeze hiring. You lay off people. You cut wages. You export jobs to Mexico, Singapore or India. It's too bad that we can't  export our politicians.

 And you know much of this won't happen because they need your vote. On the whole, there is a lack of leadership that can make serious management decisions at the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors.

The newly elected man to the Board of Supervisors, Ken Yeager, recommended voting for Measure A. I hope he doesn't think the solution is higher taxes, or else we have gained nothing as taxpayers.

Remember these names:

Beall, his view on taxes, will make you reel...
Kniss, her view on spending, you will not miss...
Gage, for tax and spend, he heads the page....
